Spring Wild Edibles Workshop
April 9, 2023 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm EDT
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”
There is an abundance of wild, free food and medicine growing all around us! In this hands-on workshop, we will get to know early spring edible plants that can be found growing locally.
We will take a walk around the land focusing on wild edible plants that emerge in early spring. We’ll discuss how to identify them, some stories & lore, as well as how to work with them for food or medicine. As we nibble our way around the land, we will be harvesting the plants we meet to make a wild pesto together!
Please bring a trowel, hori hori, or other digging tool and garden gloves if you can, and a bag or basket & scissors for your harvest. Please also bring a small container for your pesto sample and any snacks you may want to enjoy with it such as crackers, veggies, etc.
Some wild spring edibles we will meet include:
- onion grass, Allium vineale
- purple dead nettle, Lamium purpureum
- violet, Viola spp.
