An Evening of Song and Culture (Fundraiser)

November 24 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EST
Join us for an evening of music, culture, and women’s empowerment. Naii and Nixi will share traditional Huni Kuin songs, passed down through generations and sung to honor the forest, heal, and bring people together. They will also offer handmade traditional beaded jewelry decorated with kene, the sacred geometric designs of the Huni Kuin. Every purchase supports the women’s health center they are building in their home territory.
Naii Metsanii and Nixi Txanabu come from Aldeia Boa Vista, on the Rio Jordão in the Brazilian Amazon. They are the daughters of Naiibeya, a Huni Kuin healer who taught them, along with the plants and spirits of nature, the healing ways of their people.
As Txanas, they use their voices and songs to bring body, mind, and nature into harmony. They carry a message about honoring tradition, caring for the Earth, and empowering women.
Why the Center Matters:
For many Amazonian families, health care is far away. Clinics and hospitals can be hard to reach, and the trip takes time, money, and help that a pregnant woman or a parent with a sick child may not have. These barriers hurt most in urgent moments, like pregnancy, birth, or when a young child gets sick.
The center will be a place to give birth, and much more. Women, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, will be able to get care for themselves and their children and find connections to other resources. The center will also bring in Indigenous medicine and folk remedies alongside proper clinical care, with women and local knowledge-holders guiding what is shared and practiced. Traditional remedies will support trained medical care, not replace it, and urgent complications will have a clear path to emergency services.
