Self-Growth Improv and Laughter Yoga
Join us for a journey of creativity, growth, and elevated spirit and well-being in this two-
part event.
Part 1: Self-Growth Improv: A Beginner Introduction led by Val Adlington is a
beginner-friendly improv class offering a playful and powerful pathway to personal and
spiritual growth. Through simple improvisation exercises, participants will explore how
being present, supportive, and flexible allows us to meet life as it unfolds—without
needing a plan or judging ourselves.
We will begin with a short-guided meditation to open the heart, helping us arrive
grounded, receptive, and connected—ready to both give and receive.
Improv gently teaches essential life skills: active listening, adaptability, emotional
awareness, and trust in yourself and others. By practicing the core improv principle of
“Yes, and…,” participants learn to accept what is happening and build forward with
curiosity rather than resistance. In a supportive, low-pressure environment, mistakes
are welcomed as opportunities, helping quiet the inner critic, reduce anxiety, and build
resilience.
This class encourages spontaneity, creativity, and self-confidence while strengthening
empathy and communication. Improv shows us that we don’t need to know the next
step to move forward—we just need to stay present. What emerges is greater self-trust,
deeper connection, and a renewed ability to navigate uncertainty with openness and
grace.
Part 2: A Laughter Yoga Experience is a brief introduction and then practice of
Laughter Yoga. For those not familiar, Laughter yoga (Hasya yoga) is an exercise
routine that combines intentional laughter with deep belly breathing, without any difficult
movements or relying on jokes or humor. Created in 1995 by Indian physician Dr.
Madan Kataria, it is based on the idea that your body cannot tell the difference between
fake and real laughter, providing the same physical and mental health benefits.
Alternating laughter exercises with deep pranayama breathing increases oxygen flow to
the brain and body – releasing stress, boosting your mood, and contributing to better
health.
We will begin with a brief introduction and then:
Use warm-up and breathing exercises to quickly shift focus, warm up the lungs,
and wake up the room
Use laughter connection icebreakers to eliminate awkwardness rapidly through
eye contact and play
In the longest focus of the session, use core laughter exercises to drive oxygen
to the brain and trigger deep diaphragmatic belly laughs
Use a seated or laying down laughter meditation to allow a quick, purely internal
emotional release without physical strain
Conclude with a grounding and closing exercise that stabilizes the nervous
system and leaves participants feeling calm, centered, and clear-headed.
