SUMMARY:Cultivating Mushrooms on Logs
DESCRIPTION:Join us Sunday following our singing bowls as we come together to deepen our relationship with nature through the fungi kingdom. With this immersive introduction\, we will learn just how easy it can be to cultivate gourmet and medicinal mushrooms right at home. We will focus on the basics of cultivation\, and so we are going to be actively inoculating our own mushroom logs to take home. Shitake\, Blue Oyster\, and Tiger Sawgill will be our chosen species to work with here. You will also get to take home your own log and finish the cultivation process at home as you wait for the mycelium to colonize the log\, and in time produce fruits. \nWe will also discuss a light scientific perspective and history of the fungi species that we will be cultivating and will cover a brief introduction to the fungi life cycle. We won’t go too in depth for this event\, as the aim is to offer an opportunity to deepen our connection with nature through the fungi world and to enjoy ourselves with community. Depending on interest\, we may offer events in the future that dive deeper into more specific areas of cultivation. \nSpace is limited so a RSVP is required. SUMMARY:Sweat Lodge Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:RSVP is required. \nThis is poured following Lakota traditions. All are welcome as long as come with open/positive mind and respectful heart. No prior experience is necessary. We will give an introductory talk\, review some songs and make prayer ties. \nThis is done with respect and in honor of the traditional ways\, to purify\, for the promotion and redemption of life and to honor and make relations with grandmother earth and our spiritual life. So\, please leave all ego and emotional baggage at home. No one person is more important than the other. This is about community and building relations thru this ceremony only. So\, please understand there is no need to bring crystals\, energy healing\, chanting or any other special gifts to add into this ceremony. We have many other events for those beautiful gifts. \nThere is no charge for this ceremony\, but we will have a bowl set aside for donations if you would like to offer a donation. Any donation goes directly to purchasing materials to support the ceremony and grounds. \nPlease understand that if this is your first time\, part of the teachings of this way of life our respect\, patience and generosity. So\, there may be several reasons one might be asked to offer support and pray outside the lodge. Additionally\, one person will be needed to be the firekeeper. People are also welcome to come observe and support without going into the sweat lodge. \nPart of this ceremony is the work we do beforehand to clean and prepare the grounds. So\, please show up in work clothes. Don’t worry if you are physically unable to do manual labor. There’s always a way you can help out. If you have a rake\, work gloves or other tools\, please bring them just in case. There will be time before the ceremony to change into your sweat attire. \nTo go into the lodge\, please bring 1 or two towels and appropriate clothes to wear into lodge. Men should wear shorts and women should have long skirt and shirt covering shoulders. Traditionally\, you bring a small tobacco offering for the firekeeper and the intercessor. \nCEREMONIAL MEAL: Part of this ceremony is for the community to enjoy a meal after the sweat. DESCRIPTION:Join us as Sean Lin and Madalina Vasiliu introduce us to Falun Gong. They will start with a brief lecture and exercise demonstrations. Then participants will be given the opportunity to experience these meditations. \nFalun Gong (also called Falun Dafa) is an ancient spiritual practice in the Buddhist tradition. Gong combines meditation and gentle exercises (similar to yoga or tai chi) with a moral philosophy centered on the tenets of Truthfulness\, Compassion\, and Tolerance (or in Chinese\, Zhen 真\, Shan 善\, Ren 忍). Falun Gong practitioners aspire to live by these principles in their daily lives. In traditional Chinese culture\, the process of perfecting and refining mind and body is called “cultivation”. Our modern language uses the word qigong to describe it. \nFalun Gong has five sets of meditation exercises\, which help practitioners open up their energy channels\, improve energy levels and harmonize with the universe. These five sets of exercises are easy to learn for people of all ages and various culture backgrounds. The meditation is often conducted with the Falun Gong exercise music that is filled with powerful energy as well. Sean Lin has practiced Falun Gong for more than two decades and has been volunteering as director of communication for Falun Dafa Association in Washington DC. \nFIRST TIMERS: All are welcome as long as you come with an open/positive mind and respectful heart. SUMMARY:Sweat Lodge Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:This is poured following Lakota traditions. All are welcome as long as come with open/positive mind and respectful heart. \nTo go into the lodge\, please bring 1 or two towels and appropriate clothes to wear into lodge. Men should wear shorts and women should have long skirt and shirt covering shoulders. Traditionally\, you bring a small tobacco offering for the firekeeper and the intercessor. \nThere is no charge for this ceremony\, but each person should bring something to contribute to our potluck feast afterwards. Here are other things our center would appreciate: \n1. Blue moving blankets (we are short on these and will need some to build the lodge)\n2. Firewood (aged and preferably split 23″ long)\n3. Rocks (suitable for heating in lodge)\n4. Sage\, Sweet grass\, Flat cedar\, Tobacco\n5. Personal Blankets\n6. Paperware (plates\, cups\, napkins\, utensils\, paper towels\, toilet paper)\n7. Candles (any size unscented)\n8. Cotton Cloth Strips (yards of traditional black\, red\, yellow\, white\, blue\, green\, purple)\n9. Donations to our center are always appreciated \nWe will also be practicing songs and learning how to make prayer ties.. We have electricity in case you want to bring a crockpot. \nWe will likely go into the lodge around 5pm\, which means we should finish up no later than 7pm. . \nPlease understand that if this is your first time\, part of the teachings of this way of life our respect\, patience and generosity. So\, there may be several reasons you are asked to offer support and pray outside the lodge. \nRSVP is required. She will give a brief intro to the basic of tarot \nThen you will be given an individual opportunity to find some guidance with one question that needs to have light shed upon. If there is time\, we will continue with multiple questions  throughout the session. \nDo you have a burning question\, conflict\, or situation that you need guidance with? Or maybe a love question? Something about a job? Ask the universe for the answer with me as your medium. Using the traditional classic cards\, you will pick your own card out of a stack and Nicole will help interpret them relating to your question. \nAll are welcome as long as you come with an open mind and respectful heart. \nSuggested offering: $15-$25 \nPlease note we are the red house at the very end of the 1/2 mile driveway.  Please be mindful to drive extra slowly on the driveway.
