SUMMARY:Sweat Lodge Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:RSVP is required. Please read this description in its entirety. \nThis is poured following Lakota traditions. All are welcome as long as come with open/positive mind and respectful heart. No prior experience is necessary. We will give an introductory talk\, review some songs and make prayer ties before going into the lodge. \nPart of this ceremony is the work we do beforehand to clean and prepare the grounds. So\, please show up in work clothes and bring work gloves. Don’t worry if you are physically unable to do manual labor. There’s always a way you can help out. If you have a rake\, chainsaw\, weed whacker\, maul\, gloves or other tools\, please bring them just in case. There will be time before the ceremony to change into your sweat attire. \nThis ceremony is conducted with respect and in honor of the traditional ways\, to purify\, for the promotion and redemption of life and to honor and make relations with grandmother earth and our spiritual life. So\, please leave all ego and emotional baggage at home. No one person is more important than the other. This is about community and building relations thru this ceremony only. So\, please understand there is no need to bring crystals\, energy healing\, chanting or any other special gifts to add into this ceremony. We have many other events for those beautiful gifts. \nThere is no charge for this ceremony\, but we will have a bowl set aside for donations if you would like to offer a donation. Any donation goes directly to purchasing materials to support the ceremony and grounds. \nPlease understand that if this is your first time\, part of the teachings of this way of life our respect\, patience and generosity. So\, there may be several reasons one might be asked to offer support and pray outside the lodge. Additionally\, one person will be needed to be the firekeeper. People are also welcome to come observe and support without going into the sweat lodge. \nTo go into the lodge\, please bring 1 or 2 towels and appropriate clothes to wear into lodge. Men should wear shorts and women should have long skirt and shirt covering shoulders. Traditionally\, you bring a small tobacco offering for the firekeeper and the intercessor. \nCEREMONIAL MEAL: Part of this ceremony is for the community to enjoy a meal after the sweat. Each person should bring something to contribute to this potluck meal. Also\, paper wear is always appreciated. \nIMPORTANT DIRECTIONS: The address is 15406 Riding Stable rd. Property is at end of 1/2 mile driveway into the woods. you will drive over a small stream. Please be EXTRA MINDFUL to drive slowly (under 10 MPH) as to not stir any driveway dust. It is a shared driveway so it’s important to respect our neighbors. All are welcome who arrive with an open mind and a respectful heart. No prior experience is needed. We will begin with an introduction\, review some songs\, and create prayer ties before entering the lodge together. \nPreparation & Work TogetherAn important part of the ceremony is caring for the land beforehand. Please come in work clothes and bring gloves. If you have tools such as a rake\, chainsaw\, weed whacker\, or maul\, feel free to bring them. If physical labor isn’t possible for you\, there are always other meaningful ways to help. Time will be given to change into your sweat attire before the ceremony begins. \nAbout the CeremonyThis sacred tradition is held in honor of the Lakota ways—for purification\, renewal of life\, and deep connection with Grandmother Earth and Spirit. We ask that you come with humility\, leaving behind ego and unnecessary burdens. All are equal here. Please understand this is a time for community\, and practicing opening our hearts. So there’s no need to bring in other practices such as crystals\, chanting\, or energy healing. That way\, it’s just you coming into the lodge \nThere is no fee to attend. A donation bowl will be available for those who wish to help support the ceremony and upkeep of the grounds. \nGuidelines & Attire \n\n\nPlease bring 1–2 towels and wear appropriate clothing: \n\n\nMen: shorts \n\n\nWomen: long skirt and a shirt covering the shoulders \n\n\n\n\nBring a small tobacco offering for the firekeeper and intercessor \n\nOther contributions are appreciated\, such as cotton cloth\, tobacco\, sage\, sweat grass.\n\n\nAt times\, some may be asked to support or pray outside the lodge. One person will also be invited to serve as firekeeper. Participation as observer and supporter is always welcome.\n\nCeremonial MealAfter the sweat\, we will share a potluck meal together.
